Ping Test

ping test checks if a server or website is reachable and how fast it replies. This is about connection speed and stability, not search engine discovery.

What ping measures

When you ping a server, your device sends a small request and waits for a reply. The result is shown in milliseconds (ms). Lower times usually mean a smoother connection.

How to run a ping test on Windows

  1. Open Command Prompt (type cmd in Windows search)
  2. Enter a command like:

ping yahoo.com

or:

ping 198.178.01.123

How to Read Ping Results

Windows typically show:

  • Reply (confirmation the host responded)
  • Bytes (packet size)
  • Time (ms) (response time)
  • TTL (Time To Live)

What TTL means

TTL drops as your request passes through networks (“hops”). It can hint at how far the server is in network terms, but it doesn’t always match real-world distance.

Common messages

  • Request timed out: no reply (server may block ping, or the connection failed)
  • Unknown host / Cannot resolve: domain may be wrong or DNS is not responding
  • Destination host unreachable: your network can’t reach the route right now

What Is a Good Ping Time?

Ping depends on distance and network load, but a simple guide is:

  • Under 100 ms: usually smooth for most tasks
  • 100–200 ms: okay, but delays may show in calls or games
  • Over 200 ms: can feel slow for real-time use

Quick clarification (important)

  • Website Ping Tool = notifies ping services about content updates (SEO/discovery)
  • Ping Test = checks reachability and latency (network/troubleshooting)
